Why Agent Finder NZ was created
The concept of Agent Finder was created in 2009 to address conduct and service quality issues that disadvantaged property sellers both sale-price-wise and experience-wise.
Our research originally started in 2007 and our findings informed us about what difference further vetting of real estate agents would make when selling properties. Our agent vetting criteria was based on comprehensive research and has continued to evolve through changing times since. This research, our years' of experience, and knowledge gained from over 4600 property sellers who have benefitted from our service is unparalleled.
Although the Real Estate Agents Act 2008 and licensing of agents and agencies came into effect in 2009, there are still hundreds of formal complaints made to the Real Estate Authority each year.
In June 2025, the Real Estate Authority reported a 44% increase in the number of complaints when compared to the 2024 year.
With 14,762 licensed salespeople and agents and 858 companies as of 13 June 2025, it is a cumbersome task for real estate authorities to improve the system. Even with the code of conduct, consumer guides, verifiable CPD (continued professional development), training and other improvement initiatives over the years, there is still much room for improvement and that is the difference we make.
