August 2026: REINZ figures for July 2026 show a New Zealand housing market where prices remain steady and sales sit within a normal historical range. The national median sale price of $760,000 was down 0.7% year-on-year.

REINZ’s 35 years of sales records place July 2026 around the historical midpoint for the month. However, properties did take longer to sell with the national median Days to Sell at 50 days, up two days year-on-year. Buyers are taking time to carefully consider their options, and sellers are sometimes allowing more time for the right buyer to come along REINZ Chief Executive Lizzy Ryley reported.

Regional variation continued with several southern markets posting standout results. The Otago House Price Index reached an all-time high of 4,366, exceeding its previous peak set earlier in 2026, and Canterbury’s sales (1,085) were the fourth-highest July since REINZ records began in 1992.
